As the title says, I spotted one on a bypass, it seemed to be a parked volvo T5, but had some sort of camera facing out of the rear window (was behind the window glass). Anyone know what this is for?

Cheers.

i would imagine it is a camera mounted to view / record the traffic behind the patrol car

I see, it was just weird because it was parked on a little verge between a layby and the actual road, making me think it was for speed or some other check.

Don't any of you watch Traffic Cops?
It is linked to dvla database and is there to track no road tax and no insurance.... It does not notice cloned plates unless the plate owner declares the car sorn.

I bet HM gorvenment and the insurers are rubbing thier hands

they do this in a couple of location near us... park up on the way into a roundabout with a couple of cars & a fleet of bikes to pull people over.

its good to see, i have nothing to fear.
as well as the anpr insurance/tax check i've seen them pull over peeps on mobiles.

Ah, I thought I saw something about that in Traffic Cops.

Thanks for the replies!

ah traffic cops that where you learn how the system works, i thought you could only do FOI

if it is an ANPR camera then it is linked to a few more databases than the DVLA, or and believe me it does look out for cloned plates

it could be just a standard rear facing video camera looking out for rear end offenders (called a#seholes)

That would be interesting, it would take ages for the real person to find out that their plate is cloned, then you could get pulled over many many times before the clone is pulled over, if he knows where not to go to avoid such checks.

I am fairly sure that the cloned plate searching relies on operator vigilance, ie, number reveals on screen make/model/colour, car is different make or model or colour - suspect clone.

The only alternative viable solution is a reported cloned plate - and this surely will in 99% of cases be done by the owner.

Why would you wish to apply any labels to any of the posters? Surely by implication that means that you are attacking the person rather than debating the points that they may raise.

call it stereo typical profiling, it is not too difficult from the posts

as a song goes " i have been spat on and shat on raped and abused " (ok discount the raped bit), i have been called many a thing

wondering posted about a rear facing camera in a patrol car in reality only 2 options ANPR / video

in two threads i / we have been labelled

an arsehole by Delta F
a scammer operator by by odin

ok speedfreaks , do i take it personaly, no

because i know in a real life scenario if we were to ever meet you would not say a word

Indeed, in a patrol car, there are very few options as to what it could be, since the primary function of a police traffic patrol is to improve road safety.

It's not a great leap in stereo typing, that an industry that does nothing to prevent accidents, simply fining people (14 days) after the fact. We can all see what the motivation is, and to be fair, we are the morons for allowing the government to scam us for so long.

However I am inguigued as to how I have ended up with the label speadfreak.

There seems to be this huge problem with the pro-camera lobby, basically summed up by 'The law of the excluded middle'. eg. If you support cameras, then you obey the speed limit. If you are against cameras then you are a speedfreak.

A similar statement would be: If it exists then you can find it on the internet. If you can't find it on the internet, then it doesn't exist.

Or, as Phil Anselmo of Pantera so eloquently put it, "got s**t on, pi**sed on, stepped on, spat on, f**cked with, and pointed at by lesser men".

Ahem.

Is there a defined limit to being labelled a speed freak?

For example, if I drive at 61 in NSL, am I a speed freak? Or must one nudge - say - 83 or 76 or 67?

Not quite so, i simply reused your evaluation or "labelling" of other people.
If you cant stand the heat......truth hurting and all that, then refrain from using those same labels on others.....its not nice ya know.

Humour me for a moment scamera operator, i wish to ask a question.
Why wouldnt anyone "say a word" to you in real life?
Do you pack an overly large truncheon maybe? Perhaps you were relegated to the vans due to a propensity to taser yourself in a layby?
