bmwk12 sir. We have a large (it's a big hole) land fill site on the farm. Trucks going in with rubbish and out with gravel 6 days a week. The only place to wash the wheels of yer bin lorry is in the deep puddles. I don't like taking me tractor down there, it get too dirty and windolene doesn't grow on trees :wink: .

We have a road sweeper, but try to avoid using the road (as I have already said) when it's wet, by going across fields. Our combine only ever crosses roads for example.

A good post Lawman with some interesting points,

First off You make the assumption that because we are here we are "Pro Speeding" and for anarchy on the roads, thats just not the case although its fair to say that a high percentage of people here are anti camera.

Now to address a couple of your points;

So speed cameras are there to catch speeders and the police are there to catch everything else. I am sorry but where the hell are the police hiding? I do thousands of miles and you just don't see traffic police on the roads anymore not like you did "BC". Since the cause of crashes in 95% of occasions is a factor other than speeding I for one feel a lot less safe knowing that we are now in the situation we are.

Second If Drug takers, Burglars etc were treated the same as the motorist then quite frankly half my argument would be gone, but their not. They get away with it because there just is not the stomache to investigate this "middle level" of crime. Murders rapes etc are investigated with the full force of the law, Burglarys and othe minor offences are not. I have had cars broken into 5 times over last couple of years and not once has anyone from the police shown an interest, all I get is acrime number so my insurance can contimnue their funding of the local oiks drug habits.

In the possibility that you do actually catch someone then they get legal aid and have a very low chance of a conviction and if they are then they normally will get a slap on the wrists or told to stand in the corner. They have the right to silence and the principles of law are followed to the letter with them.

Speeding drivers are fleeced by a government intent on a misguided road safety policy and an addiction to revenue grabbing.

Give me a police force with Traffic officers on the ground in numbers and a burgalry detection rate that is not a joke and I'll agree that you can have cameras without an argument. But cameras replace police period.

What we ALL want is more police patrolling the roads and catching dangerous drivers who for the most part are not detected by the cameras. The drivers who drive in the right lane at 10mph below the speed limit causing other motorists to become frustrated and end up taking risks that might end up in an RTA. The camera will NEVER catch that driver.

What about the drunk driver who is weaving all over the road, into oncoming traffic and all well under the speed limit. The camera will NEVER catch that driver.

What about the idiot racer who cuts in and out of traffic causing general panic from the average motorist, but knows where the camera is? The camera will NEVER catch that driver.

We need Police on the roads, not revenue raising cameras placed on perfectly good roads with virtually no history of accidents and speed limits dropped to absurdly low levels.

In Melbourne the cameras on the Western Ring Road were found to be faulty and have been turned off for the last 6-12 months and the number of crashes has DECREASED! Cameras cause people to watch their speedos instead of the road thereby wasting valuable reaction time in an emergency.
