you have said that speed and accidents are related, but then you have said that there are two different scenarios in the relationship, and it became conditional.

I said nothing of the kind. Pointing out two different scenarios is not the same as saying there are no others. I merely pointed out that there are no pedestrians or cyclists on motorways so drawing conclusions about the safety or otherwise of speeding in their proximity using motorways as an example is daft.

Did you manage to uncover the extent of safepeed's campaign in influencing the council's decision yet?

I used to have a dog that was just like Oliver. Daft as a brush he used to run round chasing his own tail but never caught it...I wonder why? He got killed on the road, run over, but funny enough the driver wasn't "SPEEDING"

Do you have an opinion on the Zero Initiative at all, graball?

Excellent. I won't have to tug you along anymore if you agree that accident frequency is not related to the square of the mean speed (except in the most approximate sense), because of all the variation of conditions. That's a type of progress, so thanks.

Now we can move on to the mismatch between the real risk levels and the allocations of limits (you'll find that hard for your side of the argument, given the levels of incompetence amongst government officials), and then later, we can address the severity of the punishment versus the level of wrong-doing. By then, we'll have you convinced, although it's going to be a long haul, I can see that.

You may be able to sense speed, oliver, but your woefully behind the power curve in sensing public opinion!

I said nothing of the kind. For the fourth time, I explained that citing cyclist and pedestrian casualties on roads where there are no cyclists or pedestrians allowed is daft. It's not a terribly difficult point to grasp!

I'm inviting you to demonstrate this public opinion for me.

Like this:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/1157453.stm

I asked if there was evidence that this campaign has had an effect on official policy. You cited a council's decision to reduce the reliance on cameras. Do you now admit safespeed weren't even mentioned by the council, let alone consulted?

Zero initiative? What is that exactly?

It's little wonder you have difficulty following arguments on threads you haven't even read properly.

No, I'm happy... let's just conclude that the relationship you claimed is dead, and then we can move on. Oh, and when it's all over, you're still going to have to convince us that a "big brother state" is desirable. Some of us don't like being spied on everywhere. You've got your work cut out now, so get on with it.

sorry oliver but reading your threads is like watching my dog chase his tail, boring and repetitive, where exactly did you mention that?

I claimed no relationship, I pointed out that cyclists aren't allowed on motorways. Are you now claiming they are?

The BBC is pretty good at attempting to lead public opinion with propaganda.

Don't worry about the planet, BBC Breakfast were running " Corporate Nazi " propaganda about what a good idea it would be to introduce pay as you throw BIN TAX to get us all to recycle more this morning before 8. Ask a leading question in a survey of a selected minority with a loaded question and claim that everybody is in favor of it. Its just another over complicated IT scheme for the stock market " tech sector " to parasite on, more false economic growth which increases the gap between rich and poor.

In a real poll recently ( Billington and Old Langho, Ribble Valley BC ) the Tories won a former long term Lib-Demmic seat with a pledge of NO BIN TAX by 350 votes to 180,Lab 42. The seat contains both working class council estates and many new large houses for the more affluent, a broad cross section of the population not just ten bob fat cats selectively selected by the pollsters. Turnout at the local by-election was pretty high despite the atrocious weather on the day.

I admit nothing, but the express reported:

Quote:
The AA’s Andrew Howard said: “Over the next few months we could see other councils taking this decision – as many as eight or 10 to begin with.”

Local authorities including Portsmouth, Somerset and Walsall are said to be looking into the benefits of scrapping the cameras which last year netted £104million in fines.

Campaign group Safe Speed spokeswoman Clare Armstrong said: “We really hope this is the kick-start Britain needs to start removing all its speed cameras. There will be plenty of councils spurred on by this decision.

Fingers crossed, eh?

brossen, if you seriously equate measure to encourage recycling or lower traffic speeds with nazism then you deserve to be dragged by the hair to the gates of Auschwitz to see what totalitarianism really means.

Then I'm happy. There is (as far as we know) no relationship between speed and accidents. Whoa, we're zooming along now.

That's not what I said either, reference TRL 421 which establishes the link between higher speeds and more accidents. The higher the speeds the more likely the accident and the worse the consequences.

Higher speeds make more accidents likely.

There are no cyclists on motorways so claiming this proves speeding around cyclists is safe is daft.

That's my view as plainly as I can state it, I've provided references that back up what I say, if you disagree then try to explain without blatantly lying about what's been said.

Well Oliver, in my opinion, and we are all allowed opinions are we not? You are a totally inexperienced person when it comes to anything at all that happens on our british roads and no matter how much government spin you read and absorb , you will never understand the first thing that actually happens out there on the roads and no matter how many safety experts like yourself spout your opinions about how to cut deaths on the road with speed cameras and restrictions ,you never will because you haven't got the first inclination of what you are talking about and the only way to understand road safety is to "get out there" and experience it for yourself. Just like the old ladies who look out of their windows moaning about the "breaneck" speeds that traffic passes their windows every day you are hopelessly wrong and ill informed. I've been driving 35 years and have covered over one million miles but road safety ISAT AN ALL TIME LOW in this country at present but not because of speed but because of stupid "know alls" like yourself who don't actually drive very far at all so cannot actually see what is really happening and until you do, you never will.

graball, on what do you base your assertion that I don't drive? When did I ever call myself a "safety expert"?

In what way do you feel the Transport Research Laboratory, cited on the main part of this website, is "ill informed"?

What are the flaws in their methodology or statistical analyses?
