Sorry to join this late!

Obviously traffic shouldn't bunch so tightly that no return gaps are available to overtaking traffic.

As I see it (and particularly in the summer), this is the biggest hazard on Scottish roads.

As a very regular user of Scotland's rural roads, I am constantly infuriated by "convoy" type traffic problems. The HGV 40 limit is, as you say, ridiculous. All it requires is one driver caught behind an HGV (or caravan) who lacks the confidence to overtake, to start this convoy.

What further compounds the problem is the fact that this driver sits way too close to the HGV, thereby preventing anyone else from overtaking. This has a knock on effect which culminates in the kind of frustrating driving experienced by "white van man". Whilst I do not condone that kind of driving, I can share his frustration.

I'm sure many will agree.

to all who struggle to overtake, particularly when there are queues of snails on an otherwise open road.

plan 1: sit back and enjoy the scenery

plan 2: buy a motorbike and blitz the snails

ps plan 2 will get you in deep sh*t in derbyshire, north wales and the lake district to name but three.

pps plan 2 followed by stopping to enjoy the scenery is much fun. cos you can have another go at blitzing the same snails twice!
