Last wednesday i crashed my car into the back of another car the misstake made was by looking at the radio for a brief second and the cars ahead suddenly stopped i never mentioned in the police interview that i looked at the radio. The accident happened right infront of a policecar as a witness :(

What is the chance of this going to court i was offered a speed awareness course instead today but declined due to the £200 cost which i cant afford this is already costing me around £300 wish i took up the free legal advice now i was offered at the start.

Also if this did go to court is there a high chance i would get points and how many i claimed the cars ahead suddenly stopped and i slammed on my brakes causing the wheels to skid but accepted the accident was my fault.

cheers.

Try www.pepipoo.com.
They are better placed to provide post incident assistance.

D'you know, those summer colds are terrible. It's a sad fact that at the point where you start to sneeze, just like having an orgasm, you have no control for around a second or so.

Very easy to run into the back of a car under these summer, pollen filled days, eh?

Yes, If you are fiddling with radio instead of looking where you are going.

Jedimafia, knows what they did wrong, and will hopefully learn a valuable lesson.

I would entirely agree with you on that score 1,000,000%

So provided Jedi Mafia's insurance company pays out to all the agrieved with no messing 'innocents' around, what could possibly be "in the public interest" to put 6 or 8 points on the said individual's licence?????

To coin a phrase, the individual concerned was a grade A wally

No need for the nickings on top, eh?

I would agree, as long as the innocent party is not messed around in any way , and i am surprised the Police interviewed Jedimafia.

Makes me wonder if there is more to this, Police usually don't get invloved in minor, non injury accidents.

I'm sorry to hear about your mishap jedimafia, and I hope things get sorted out without much further upset.

I quite often change CDs and fiddle with the radio while driving, but I think the important thing is to confine it to suitable situations. Following relatively closely behind other traffic (for example) is not a good time for getting involved with extraneous activities.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Not if you go to a police station to report it, no.

However if they happen to be passing, or a member of public calls them, then they will turn up to see what is happening.
Of course once they are there, they will more than likely stick their oar in unless they have other pressing matters to attend to.

Like changing the film in a roadside camera so they can go back to the nick and have a quiet afternoon, eh?

WTF good would a speed awareness course be :banghead: ? Were you speeding? You could run into the back of someone at walking pace. A not fiddling with the radio and not watching what your doing course might be a better bet. Obviously I would never do such a thing   .

The worst thing about this situation is the fact the your insurance will rocket for a stupid mistake, coulda been much worse though.

Must have been major damage requiring tow truck or injuries needing hospital treatment etc otherwise police would not be involved, not even 'passing patrol car' would intervene unless, the cop witnessed him 'driving without due care/attention'.

Need to know a bit more about this especially the short period of time between the accident and him being "offered a speed awareness course instead" !

I was in a 'rear end shunt' 4wks ago, my car was 'written off' (cat 3 damage) no police involved, (and it was 100yds from the area police H-Q !) didn't even need to report it, insurance are paying out for my motor and, we are claiming whiplash injuries for my missus.

Other driver admitted full liability, insurance job only, no offences/charges to either party, end of story !

I was always under the impression that you were still legally obliged to report a "damage only" accident within 24 hours.

When did that change then?

In my own personal experience of 'rear end' collisions (3 in 5yrs !) at least five years ago.

As the law stands now, and has done for many years, one is only "legally obliged" to report an accident if there are personal injuries (requiring hospital treatment) or an offence has been commited such as the driver responsible for the 'bump' fails to stop, or give details of insurance/appears to be 'under the influence' etc.

Standard procedure in 'minor accidents' is for each driver to provide their name/address/insurance details and reg number, it's adviseable to note the make/model/colour of the other vehicle(s) involved too.

I'm still waiting for a response from 'jedimafia' for more info about his 'crash', and how the police came to be involved.
