Righto guys

having driven under 2 years, im always aprehensive about points on my license. I'm paradnoid about doing things wrong.

Today i took someone to the hospital. the roads around the site are very slow and it isnt the speed im worried about. trying to figure where to go with every imaginable sign in site it was all very confusing. before i new it i had past a flashing sign that said stop here when flashing or something to that extent, because of oncoming vechcle.

Do you think that the hospital (and we all know how much they like to steel our money with their parking) would be likley to fine me if caught on their cctv? It wouldnt be a traffic light offence as it wasnt even a traffic light.

I know, i know its very paranoid. But i think the road is also important for ambalances so i wonder if they wouldn't take a kind view to what i did.

I wouldn't worry too much, if you're on hospital grounds then there isn't much they can do in the way of enforcement (it's unlikely it's Highway authority land). Most of the hospitals I've worked with don't really care much about people parking left, right and centre anyway. Even if they do, just claim you're a Clinical Consultant and you'll get away with it!

RE: Hospitals stealing money? Would you rather they compromised clinical care to fund carparking? I think I'd rather pay for parking and have them spend it on drugs, nurses, doctors and equipment myself.

My local hospital (any many, many others) uses a private company to enforce parking compliance.
You get a parking ticket, and a request to pay.
You fail to pay, they pay dvla and obtain the rk address and send a letter.
You fail to pay and they threaten legal action in another letter (which then charges you for the letter as well)
Still fail to pay and the dept is then passed to a collection agency, with more charges, and a credit search will throw the action up.
Still fail to pay and bailiffs are sent to demand payment.
Ongoing !

And I'd rather not be worrying about where I'm going to find £4 in loose change from when I'm visiting a terminally ill relative.

But then I also remember the days when hospital parking was free..... but none of the parking spaces ever were. :(

My wife works as a nurse at a hospital, originally the staff car park was free. Then there was a nominal charge for a staff pass. When it went up to £60 a year much of the staff were unhappy. She has now been told that the system is changing and that her annual pass will now expire at the beginning of October to accomodate the change (instead of at the end of the year, therefore 2 months short changed).

There is no local public transport that could get her to the hospital in time for an early start, and if there were something that could cope with a late finish it would add an hour onto her working day and she'd have to take a detour through the city centre late in the evening to change buses.

Let's face it - some people really do have to use their own transport to get to work!

The cost this year for staff parking? £240.00 - and that's not being used to fund nursing or healthcare because her wages are definitely not increasing, whilst her duties are.

I work in a local NHS hospital and I think I pay around £90 a year (depends on pay banding) plus we pay 50p a day for when we park.
