Dear All,

Yesterday while traveling home, i went through a camera below the speed limit, and when approaching the end of the white grid on the road, the camera flashed!

The reason for flashing was that a car travelling too fast on the other side of the road triggered the camera while i was passing through the camera spot.

So now i am worried that i will get a fine through the post!

Any ideas or suggestions on what i can do!?

Thanks.

If you know you weren't speeding you should be fine, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The white grid you refer to is to provide an independent confirmation of the speed measurement from the radar sensor. The operator processing the film has to check that the figures match and that they both indicate an offence otherwise the prosecution cannot go ahead.

From what you describe you should be fine.

Was it definitely a GATSO?
The flash time is fixed so it is fairly straightforward, but REDSPEED cameras vary the flash interval to suit your speed over the sensor, and a distance of 10 meters between the two flashes should show an offence.
However in Cumbria, the SCP prosecute even when the distance is less than ten metres.
See this thread:http://www.safespeed.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15839 where the driver had only travelled 8 metres! Magistrates were quite prepared to convict him - until he got decent legal representation.

Many motorists simply pay up the £60 rather than fight the case costing time AND money.
They even used to show a pile of electronically cut and paste certificates on their website, to convince you they were properly calibrated!
They took them down soon after I revealed their shameful act in an FoI to the Home Office!
If you get a NIP, then come back with the details. :)

But be aware that (as Ernest said ) some SCP fire off the NIP ,hoping that this will induce a guilty response .If you're certain that you were under - find out how to get a photo for checking, and challenge the NIP.
