My brother wet through a Gatso at 35mph in a 30mph zone yesterday. Now as it was an extremely sunny day, he doesnt know if he was flashed. Could he get prosecuted for this? He says he was at 30mph before the end of the white road markings.

Sounds like he has a good chance of being OK, because his speedometer likely over-reads by a couple of mph, but you can never be sure.

From what I have observed, there's no mistake when a Gatso or red light camera flashes, sunny day or not. The flashes are very bright and there are two, half a second apart (one second for RLCs). Coupled with what Zamzara said, your brother will I think be NIPless.

I reckon he should be fine.

As Bombus said, when a Gatso's triggered, it's unmistakeable.

Yep, the flash is pretty bright.

As for accuracy... I saw one go off because a stationary bus happened to be near it.

Which is why they take two photos.

Yeah, apprently vibrating surfaces can skew the speed readings hugely. And we all know buses rattle like hell!

I heard a story about an old black cab that broke the land speed record (according to the camera anyway!) haha, i may have read it on this site actually.

ACPO guidelines for enforcement state 10%+2. For a 30 mph limit they would enforce at 35.

The only thing to do is wait 14 days and see if the RK gets a NIP

Yeah, the device takes two photos. Then the film is fed into Startraq and OCRed, and the conveyor-belt justice begins.
