2 million vehicles without car tax (Vehicle Excise Duty). If my experience is anything to go by is it any wonder?

I have been waiting in vain for the reminder which should have arrived in mid-January. So I logged in to www.dvla.org.uk to tax my car on-line, only to have it tell me "your car is uninsured", which means that my insurance company hadn't got round to updating the insurance database as the insurance is renewed on 1st February, the same date as the VED is due. I assume the same would have happened had the MOT been due!

So I have taken the V5C, the MOT certificate (new style) and the insurance certificate to get a tax disc at my local post office. All I can say is God help us if renewal becomes on-line only!

The last gripe is having to pay £175 instead of £110 had the car been registered in 2002 or later. Taxed as a gas-guzzler for a Band C diesel.
