I too, am totally shocked and surprised by the news.

I never had the privilege to meet Paul, but like many others I knew him from this forum, and from his seemingly ceaseless campaigning for a very worthy and forthright cause.

I always saw him as someone with great integrity and wisdom.
He will be sadly missed, and well remembered.

Ian

Rest in peace, Paul.

We never met but I know you were a man of real integrity. You stood head and shoulders above the political vermin who so often sought to discredit your excellent work.

Your unique combination of intellect, humour, patience, honesty, determination, courage and diplomacy will be greatly missed.

I'm greatly saddened by this awful news, and I offer my sincere condolences to Claire and other members of Paul's family.

We all owe Paul our gratitude for the immense effort he put in over several years, and some way must be found to carry on his work.

RIP Paul.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

OMG no! Just seen the news, what a shock. This is dreadful on so many levels :( Thoughts are with Claire, family and friends.

Very few causes in my 40+ years on this planet have persuaded me to get my wallet out. Paul Smith's stand for common sense road safety policy tempted a life SafeSpeed membership out of me, and that is no small feat I can tell you. I wish his successor(s) the success they so richly deserve.

RIP Paul.

I too was deeply saddened to hear this terrible news.

Whilst I never had the opportunity to meet Paul, I always admired his analysis and intelect. He will be sadly missed.

My condolences to his family at this most stressful time. May he rest in peace.

My capacity for any sort of eloquence has just departed me at seeing this news, and I'm left with little more than a primal instinctive response.

Shit.

I first saw the news over on PH and on seeing the thread title assumed the RIP referred to the SafeSpeed campaign - the shock and twisted feeling in my gut as I read on and the truth started to sink in was like nothing I've felt in all my years online. Like so many other supporters I never met Paul, but felt that through this site and his media appearances I'd at least got to know him in some small way.

My heartfelt condolences to Claire and family, and thank you for all the support you gave him over the years, making it possible for him to have achieved as much as he did. RIP Paul, hope St Peter gave you the keys to a decent car when he met you at the gates so you can enjoy an eternity of scamera-free driving up there.

Awful news. Awful, awful news.

I'm numb, and don't think it's still really sunk in.

Without Paul, and his ceaseless, selfless hard work and integrity I - for one - would still be questioning roads policy, but clueless as to how to examine the facts.

My deepest condolences.

Here's to you Paul, and everything you've achieved. Top man.

:drink:

Claire .. I am so sorry. I do not know what to say to comfort you. But if you need a listening ear .. I will give you my home number.

He was such a brave man. He was so nice .. re-assurring und calm over the phone. Tirelessly working for the rights of the ordinary man und woman.

He one loss to the world. It a lesser place without liebster Paulie. I will be remembering him each time I get into my car .. each time I pass a camera.. each time I hear of gross injustice.. I will remember him in my Church this weekend.

If you need a listening ear .. we help all we can.

You have all my heartfelt  und more ..

I'm truely stunned.

I've tried to write this post so many times but I simply can't think of anything to say that will convey my profound sense of shock, loss and immense saddness.

Paul singlehandedly stood up to authority and fought for what he believed in. He took action while I and others simply complained. We need people like Paul and his passing is a loss to everyone whether you agreed with him or not.

All the bravery and the hard work is begining to pay off its tragic that Paul hasn't lived to see the admission of failure that will surely come.

Claire my condolences go out to you and the rest of Paul's family and friends.

RIP Paul, take a well deserved rest and be assured that in your short time with us you made a big difference to a lot of people. You will always be an inspration to us all.

Just heard this news. Tragic.

I had the plesure of spending an afternoon with Paul and Claire at my place a couple of years ago. They were a joy to be with, and completely dedicated to the cause.

They will be sorely missed.

Utmost condolences Claire.

My deepest sympathies to Paul's family and friends.

Though I never knew Paul personally, the forum was invaluable to me in my time of need - and I am sure it will live on as his legacy.

Rest in peace.
