In Holland, the police would argue that the speed camera is for the junction ahead - after the speed camera. If the car travels at lower speed, any surprises coming from that junction could be corrected properly. ;)

Something not mentioned on that page.

Often drivers will check their rearview mirror after passing a gatso to see if it flashes.

Obviously these things are out of the usual line of sight and the driver doesn't know how long after the camera he will get flashed so he could be concentrating on whats behind him until well past that junction.

Also, oncoming drivers waiting to turn right may see cars braking for the camera and misinterpret it as they are braking to allow them to cross.

Excellent points. Thanks.

:x I got caught on camera onfriday 16th july on the M74 in scotland the camera was situated on a bridge with no notification sneaky or what thought that there would be a warning

As a driver you are taught to keep eyes on road not on bridges which are above eye level and you cant see camera until you are apon it

I was actually caught twice on same road on sameday but as I drive fora living i am a safe driver and take into account road conditions and other drivers on road and when overtaking leave space before pulling in to make sure other drivers are safe and dont have to brake because of my actions

Someone told me there'd been a news story recently about a Gatso being possibly implicated in a fatal accident. I did a quick search and found this link on the BBC news site:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manc ... 721018.stm

This is the very site of my CAN-U-HELP pictures. I can only assume that the signs were posted in relation to that accident in which a pedestrian was tragically killed by a driver who may well have been distracted. The coroner's comments are well worth reading.
