Looked at the post titled Pee Cee- but then again thought truckers might like the thought of more female drivers ---

Remember the bit about some council teaching various nationalities to drive ----Up just south of Manchester today - Advert by Stockport College or something similar - EEC is funding HGV driving tuition ---for women only ---12 week course .

B8llocks! I should have stayed in manchester!

12 week course though!?

TBH I'm not sure I agree completely with targetting specific groups. It may be positive, but its still discrimination, and at the end of the day, lets be perfectly honest here, the majority of women don't have the spatial awareness to do it anyway.

at least it reflects the amount of training required for women. my course was 7 weeks consisting of C,C+E, ADR, pass plus and NVQ2 (and military driving) but women would take much longer bearing in mind that they appear to no NO driving ability

being serious, i dont agree with offering training to specific groups. i dont mind those groups becoming drivers (as long as the standards are equal) but why should any one group be given special treatment? we all know that the vast number of truck drivers are white and male. so whats the problem? if they choose to become truckers then good luck to them. they should be entitled to the same benefits and anyone when it comes to training though

That was my point - the courses should be open to all . But - female drivers - a minimum standard of dress should be compulsary ( or is thsat being sexist). ( looks to see female driver in v short skirt---A COMPULSARY UNIFORM ??)

But seriously - HGV are power assisted this and that and the next thing- the only skill is piloting them( of course till the engine cuts out !!!!!!!), no power is required.

NOT entirely true. They may well be power assisted everything but it still takes strength to turn the wheel (says she that needed both hands to put the Scannia 360 into reverse... )

Besides that, its not just about the driving - most driving jobs entail a certain amount of physical work loading and unloading / sheeting etc.

Thats if they provide a loo at all. Remember HGV Drivers are not always wanted at the place they deliver to/collect from.
And they're not considered human enough to require the use of a loo.

It means literally "rest area please clean stay"

Never saw that particular sign in the highway code myself, but I would guess that it was in the Eastern side of Germany or possibly in Austria.

As was said, Truck Drivers are seldom given the luxury of a tiolet in places they deliver so they are unlikely to put them in rest areas.

It was always depressing to get out of the truck only to discover that some skanky tosser had used the shadow of your truck as a crapper.

Then again, some yank twat crapped by my canadian truck in a truckstop in Ohio a few weeks back. I was all of 100 feet from the actual building!

Well sorry to be on the side of women T/D,s MEN but I worked at my last firm and we had a woman driver and she was better than some of the Male gender we had, as she was part of a team of 3 in LDOY competitions 4 years running and between us she came 1st twice against me and I came 1st twice against her in same comps.
She could unload just as good as any of the "muscle men" and as she said if the manager wants to give me the easy jobs for "obvious reasons" then that,s his stupidity and my benefit!!!!!
