Well, slap me with a wet kipper and call me Susan! There's a place not two miles away from me that does the whole thing.

I've emailed the big cheese to find out when and how much etc.

I'm actually quite exciticated :)

My observer's just rung me to say he can make tonight if I can. Yay!!

Went out last night with my observer (my 4th time) and he said afterwards that he thinks I'm nearly ready for my test! Yay!

Got to organise a check ride first...

That's great! I wish I had more Associates like you.

(Have you thought about being an Observer yet?)

When I bought my sprint - one headlight was switched out due to EU harmonisation bollox. I insisted that the dealer fitted the additional relay as a condition of sale - charged 4 quid for the part.

I also understood that the BMF had signed up all uk importers to agree to make the mod free of charge.

basically use your consumer muscle and get the mod thrown in for free.

The mod should not be insurance notifiable, but obviously getting SMIDSY'd without having your lights on does affect Contributory negligence claims (failure to comply with advice in the HWC) and is a big focus of the Police AI following an injury accident.

Many situations when you want your lights off:
approaching oncoming horses
approaching an animal in the road
riding over speed bumps near junctions
riding home when your alternator/rectify packs up
starting the bike with a flat bat

Making lots of short daytime rides when you actually want your battery to charge.

He likes playing games. Last night, he said we'd play brake & speed. Each time either of us used our brakes, we got a point and every time I spotted a speed limit change before him, I'd lose a point. Person with the most points (lol!) bought the coffee at the end.

He then told me we would be going through a major town in the middle of the evening rush hour. Great. But it really does force you to think & plan ahead!

I bought the coffee.

:D

I'm not surprised, he was bound to win if he never noticed a speed limit change before you

You make it sound as if using your brakes is some sort of discredit - can you expand on that?

Not meant - but to try and make me look further ahead, plan, and demonstrate slow machine control...

Making a clear distinction when you want to flash. In fact, if you go over a hump/bump someone could think you've flashed them to pull out! (I think that's what you mean in your forth point, but I just wanted to expand it a little)

hopefully said observer was using this as a training aid to get you to set up bends properly. nothing wrong with braking in the SPEED phase of the system.

obviously 'trailing it in' shouldn't be necessary along with 'settling the suspension mid bend' if you've set it up correctly*

both excuses I've heard for panic or comfort braking mid bend

*exceptions include descreasing radius bends, camber changes or increases in decline bends.

As long as you are not riding that fast or extreme technical roads it should be entirely possible to ride using the throttle as your only brake..

exactly avoiding the 'headlight bounce' that makes it look like you flashed them to come out.

I will normally switch down to the DLR lights (side lights except theres only one at the top of the fairing) when doing this or switch off completely.

I also use lights off when training people without radios - it means cancel your indicator or find somewhere to stop.

Correct. As it happens, the roads we were riding last night are actually quite technical, but he was trying to make me be more accurate on setting out my positioning for view better, and increasing my observation, rather than relying on my brakes to correct things after I'd buggered my line up...
