Sadly it looks as though the two bigest rallies of the summer may well be cancelled this year.

BBC News

This is Derby

Both the Bulldog Bash and the Rock and Blues have had objections to their licences lodged by the respective local police forces, due to fears of possible reprisals for the shooting of Gerry Tobin last summer. I just hope that this is not a forcast of things to come, but I do fear it might be :(

The club that the 7 people were, or may have been, members of. When you get into club stuff, it's never just about the individual.

Well, it looks as though the Rock and Blues won't be going ahead. :(

Many moons ago my then job brought me into contact with various Patch Clubs - they're a colourful bunch. It's a shame given how few they are in number that one of their seemingly never ending spats will spoil a lot of peoples summers. But given some of the shinanagins of the past it's not really a great surprise that the authorities have acted - given the brazen nature of last summers incident what choice did they have?

I do kind of agree Barkstar, but I seriously doubt either side would risk injuring or killing an unrelated member of the public by kicking off in the middle of a rally. I recon it's more the police flexing their muscles than anything else, and I just hope that things calm down before next year.

I thought they said all this sort of behaviour would stop after Dunblane, when they banned everyone from keeping handguns! :(

All they seem to have achieved in fact is to ensure ONLY the criminals have more guns than ever before! :(

It looks as though the Bulldog is going ahead, unless the police decide to cancel it 2 weeks before hand...

Sad news indeed and probably more than a hint of hysteria involved.

But not to worry, there are still plenty of really excellent MAG rallies throughout the summer months. Go to any of these and you will be guaranteed a top quality weekend with no trouble and you'll be putting money towards riders rights into the bargain!

MAG had just such a problem some years ago and lost over £100,000 due to Police hysteria and backpatch club posturing. Fortunately, MAG were able to ensure (as far as is reasonably possible at least) that there would be no fear of this sort of thing jeapordising any of their future events.

Personally, I would much prefer to see my money going to defending my rights than anywhere else, no matter how good a weekend (incredibly good, I'm told) can be had at events like the Bulldog.
