Chris Hoy and Lewis Hamilton are to race each other on Dec 14,
]

Prelude to Sports Personality of the Year where we have stark choices between these equally worthy contenders .. who epitomise and enthuse many in each respective sport.

I reallly am torn. Lewis is one seriously talented young man. Chris has years of excellence to date behind him in his chosen sport. My vote would be to Chris who has a very long history of acclaimed achievement ... and who also enjoys DRIVING and does attend meets at Oulton Park to Swiss family delight

Chris will be racong on his Delan track bike. Lewis will drive a Mercedes "road car"

Hoy may lose out in the straights .. but could outpace Lewis in the "twisty trickies"

Both wil be on a mix of bike#s and cars in this challenge. Chris has track days at Oulton under his belt too.

I think this might be an interesting race

In the SPorts Personality contest.. Chris has the edge as he has been around longer.. won more worthy accolades.. than this child who has a serious talent and many more records to set in his chosen sport. In time .. Lewis Hamilton will be a legend in his sport far greater than Jackie Stewart.. Jame Hunt .. Damon and Graham Hill and Moss combined

This kid has the potential to put the Schumacher into perspective

Even so .. I am rooting for Hoy. Because he has a long record of excellence . and truly deserves his moment of admiration by the nation.

This was cancelled for safety reasons, but anyone wondering what it might have been like should just take a minicab round picadilly circus. :D

Chris, or another of our olympians had to win it really- they only get one chance in 4, I expect young hamilton will have more frequent opportunities...

Belatedly - I am so proud that Chris Hoy won this public accolade

Lewis will win it on another occasion. He's young and still has so much to achieve in his sport. This was only his second season after all. The boy has achieved much .. I think we are looking at perhaps the UK's finest in motor sport in this young man .. who comes across as normal.. modest and decent.

As do the cyclists. I think Nicole was robbed last year. Chris has made up for this and I would love to see him addressed as SIR Chris in full recognition of EVERYTHING he has achieved for cycling as a sport throughout his careeer to date.

Apart from this .. he could have taken on young Lewis and maybe won on track in a car  . The guy enjoys driving and track driving  What a guy!

Lewis? He will gain this accolade in time. He will deserve it too! Maybe if he had not been against a cyclist who has achieved so much BEFORE the sheer ultimate of the Beijing Olympics as let's not forget his other achievements of equal merit of the past. A truly great athlete and a modest chap-who comes across as being the chap you'd happily eat a conjovial dinner with  Chris deserves this public prize as he would deserve a knighthood!

Belatedly I wish to applaud Sir Chris Hoy and chastise those who begrudged him his honour on a BBC radio show last week.

Our athletes in gneral all did us proud in 2008 .. from Andy Murray to Lewis Hamilton and those inspiring Olympic athletes who made folk stand up and applaud Great Britain's achievements in sport.

They took us all away from the doom and gloom of an out of control economy for a month at least

Yes .. I agree there are plenty of "unsung heroes" who do more for the public. Nurses.. doctors.. teachers.. police officers .. charity workers.. aid workers and those who foster children etc.

Which brings me back to the critics who say the gold medals were the rewards. I disagree. I think the nation owes a recognition for outstaning achievement in the year it was achieved. I thus say Well DONE to Sir Chris and young Lewis has also been recognised and I have no doubt that he will also be Sir Lewis one day too.

So let's hear it for our outstanding credits to UK sport .. and especially our cyclists.

THOUGH I have to say CW ruined a naughy daydream for me.

Victoria Pendleton.

Her nude modelling on that bicycle.. for which daydreams my Alice may well divorce me   :yikes: (Bucket of cold water.. my God . but .,.. ummmm... mmmmmmm! :D  :bounce1: :drink2:

Anyway .. it seems it was modestly done . and photo-shopped for effects.

Cor... it was still a cracker of a pose though.

Yet I will agee with CW that women should not feel they must strip off. I can assure the ladies that modesty sets off a much racier imagination  and preserves their mystique to a hot blooded gentleman

Victoria is beautiful and does not need to pose nude to prove it.. though I suppose she proves, even phot0shopped, that cycling keeps one trim and firm  without any "sagging"
