A TEENAGE cyclist has died following a smash in Milnrow.
The 16-year-old was riding his bike along Newhey Road early on Friday morning when he was in collision with a Vauxhall Vectra car.
He was taken to Rochdale Infirmary then transferred to Hope Hospital, but died shortly after 10am the following day from serious head and chest injuries.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw what happened to contact them on 0161 856 8473.
If anyone out there can help.. do call. It will help ALL parties - especially the child's parents.
I have also pasted up the two most recent comments on the story. You can view all 9 so far on the Manchester Evening's web site.

I drive a car daily but have recently taken up cycling again after a very long break and i feel so unsafe riding on the road that i will use the pavement wherever possible. I feel that somewhere not very far away is the one idiot driver who will mow me down and make a statistic out of me.

We really do need to get COAST as a THINK! info message. It does help all of us out there so how we travel.
If Mike of Manchester does read this site as he might

- then I can only suggest he contacts "Bike Right" and invests £25 in one very excellent course leading to Stage Three Bikeability. It makes you as the cyclist more aware and safety led
It's no use if in a car or on a bike - carrying on "because the law says I have right of way". Sod "right of way" .. do whatever you have to to defend against the muppets with a sub-standard amoebic brain cell

so how they may travel
But use lights .. high viz and a helmet. That way they cannot blame you at all if anything goes pear shaped. It's not "giving in" - it's getting even. Insurance companies are not "benevolent nice guys" after all. They are hard nosed and "in it to win it" as far as profit margins go.

I face facts

I eat red meat and not lentil burgers.

Enigma, Trafford The time is 16-20pm 1st Oct ive just come back from the opticians on ashton old road .While i was sat in my car i saw at least four seperate kids ride right across the flow of traffic comming from right robinson school, they ride between cars that are doing 30mph and chop them up to make the car move over on the main road? What would have happened if one of these kids caused a accident? the kids would have just rode off and nobody would know who they were.If you use the roads you should have a numberplate on and have some form of insurance and that goes for kids as well. sorry but if a kid can claim from my very expensive car insurance and yet if a cyclist damages my car first of all i have to know/find them ? and then take a civil action against them "Something is wrong here" hit the driver hard as usual......MAKE ALL BIKE RIDERS HAVE SOME FORM OF INSURANCE AND REG NUMBER IF THEY USE THE ROADS.....A motorist sick and tired of financing everybody/everything in this country.

Nub of problem. All road users have to use common sense. We all have a duty of care to each other here and we must all use common sense to ensure safety to ourselves and others at all times .. so what we are doing at the time
There is no war between motorist and cyclist and pedestrian and vice versa.
All want common sense and safety led responsibilty on the part of all road users so how they choose to travel.
COAST is the starting point. Use it and we may make the prats redundant after all
