Those thoughtful folk in CW have done the research for me already..
They say plan in advance or you might have nowhere to kip!
On Le Tunnel - in July .. a short stay saver for my
car (They say CAR

}
Blimey
But anyway.. £111 is the current price for a "standard" car.
On the ferry - £58 return for CAR

and two adults return and a whopping £31 for ONE person with a BIKE.
(I hope folk appreciate why it's cheaper for me to take the car with the family on board

)
Anyway .. I see no reason why I should not take my car down to Dover and park up at the hotel we normally overnight at. Take bike up to Canterbury for the climax to Stage One. (I might even take train up to London for the Prologue - July 7)
CW intrepid reporters cycled from Canterbury to Dover in rush hour and it took an hour along the A2.
The ones who wnet by car did not improve much on that time :winkL but still apparently made the 7.30 pm crossing and arrived for evening meal in Dunkerque by 8.30 pm - which the reporter says was

perfect
They also stocked up on festive booze ..

There were some right bargains

I got some decent clarets for IG as his prezzy when I called in.
If you take bike along.. you can perhaps follow the Stage 2 and 3 routes Dunkerque-Ghent and Belgium based Waregem - Compiegne
For where to stay .. those nice CW guys tell us to look at
www.ot-dunkerque.fr/uk and to do so now as Tour start/finish towns are extremely busy.
They are also worth seeing as the floral displays, party atmosphere.. has to be savoured and it's one of those eternal memories of experience.
