Hi guys,

Just wondering whether anyone knows if the 'Gatso red-light cameras' can take you going to opposite way. If the Gatso is on the other side of the road and you jump a red light can it still get you or does it only work for the carriageway side it is on?

Thanks for any help!

Answer = No for a scamera.

Answer = YES if we copped you .. and we do not do "discretion" on traffic light offences for either motirists or cyclists.

Please take that as warning. Co Durham .. fair minded - but tough all the same :bunker:

Oh what the hell .. take it as a "threat."

Such a traffic offence as this and you might indeed whine about such unfair .. unfair .. unfair..

We may for#give the marginal blip speed .. we do not forgive those who deliberately break the laws here.

Don't think otherwise/ :nono:

The red light cameras work rear-facing so they get the lights in the photo. Easy way to prove what they were actually showing.

Even if it's midinght, there's no other traffic, perfect visibility and a broken sensor somewhere on the junction? Wahoo.

It would depend on the officers' - cough - discretion  in a circumstance such as this - but yes - we would have to at least "'ave a quiet word" - and there would be other traffic - our cars as we are not Digital Durham in a fixed sense .. but are in sense of in-car gadgets and toys. :yikes:

Hey - we don't do the daft "jobsworthy" here. Cheer up!

Only works for the side it's on , but ask you'reself why is it there ?? To make money ,or because this junction has a bad history . Err on the safe side ,consider it a minefield and emerge from the other side in one bit ,by being careful, and observant (That way you get to live long enough for DVLA to remove your licence for infirmity ,not stupidity)

Is that an insult?

You're up there. I have to suffer Dorset police.

To make money.
Take a cross-roads with a main road and a small road. Traffic on the big road will normally be travelling faster so will have less time to react to the amber light. Traffic emerging from the smaller road would be travelling slower than traffic emerging from the main road, so it would be more dangerous to discomply with a red light on the smaller road. Guess where the cameras are. Main road. More traffic. More money.

I don't understand how people even on here seem to think that we should be exercising our judgement over how to drive when it comes to numeric speed restrictions, but as soon as some hateful councillor puts a red light next to the road suddenly their opinion is more important.

Personally -I don't like red light cameras -but from observations they seem very necessary -too many people willing to gamble seconds in this world for eons in the next coupled with another lot that don't know that green has the rider "ONLY IF SAFE TO PROCEED " tagged on .Very seldom get in the situation of having to decide whether or not to pass amber - just look out for the green as far off as is possible and if on a long time understand that the longer it's on green the higher the chance that it will change just as you pass it --so slow down and be prepared to stop. Now little tip from years ago - from my insructor when learning to drive -I asked him about lights changing as you pass them -his answer - if you can -stop -if you can't and you see the one on the other side go to amber , drop a cog ( gear ) and floor it -yoi'll be over before the red . Never yet had to do it - long range observation and aplication of principles as taught by aging relatives ( strangely enough very similar to COAST ) mean that I don't have that problem .
And one last point)I'm not critising -just asking you to think ) if you find that you're missing things like red light cameras, panic braking for cameras - most likely because you're missing them - possibly because you're driving in excess of you're brains capacity to process information ,with a greater chance of not spotting that "plodmobile" behind you waiting for an error (because you're making a tad too much progress for the limit ) -or the pedestrian ( mobile glued to ear ) that decides that they're immortal .
