I just got double flashed by a red light camera as was being a bit dozey and not paying attention, but I didn't run the red light as such as was only a cars length at most over the line.

Does anyone know if a double flash garuntees a fine ??

Cheers for any help.

The offence is complete when any part of the vehicle crosses the stop line when the lights are on red.

But there's no guarantee that you'll be fined. The camera might have been out of film or any number of factors could prevent a prosecution. If you're the registered keeper they MUST send you a notice within 14 days. So you have two weeks to sweat it out.

If you do get a notice, don't be in a rush to reply. Get along to http://www.pepipoo.com and see if anyone can help with fine legal details.

They've been at the juice again I reckon and forgotten they've been done for speeding where most of us haven't...

What's that quote?

Quote:
Driving out of Nottingham usually drive out at 5pm, crawling all the way on this occasion I came out at 8pm there was no traffic and I thought the road was a 40 mph, it had been changed to a 30 mph so I was caught by the fixed point to fixed point cameras

Took a trip out yesterday, good vis though overcast and light drizzle.

Dual carriageway 40mph limit, doing about 25mph approaching light controlled roundabout A610 Nuthall, glanced in mirror, BMW bearing down at speed, lights change to amber, I accelerated through (on amber) looked in mirror, BMW follows through one and a half car lengths behind me, TWO double flashes from red light camera.

Amber was showing as I began to pass through, but could have changed to red before my rear wheels cleared the line, so now, from what you say, I'll get 'done for jumping a red light' ? :x

If I'd tried to stop there would almost certainly have been a collision involving the BMW.

I think I've mislead you. I think it only applies to the first part of the vehicle that crosses the line irrespective of what that part is.

Otherwise HGVs with long trailers would be in very deep trouble.

Anyone confirm?

There's also normally a ~2 second delay after red before the camera is activated.

ATS with red light cameras attached work on the principle that there are a set of loops just after the stop line. Which gives the first flash after the light has changed to red it arms itself and fires the flash when it detects movement over the first set of loops, recording time, and speed . The second set of loops are normally part way into the middle of the junction and again are armed when light goes to red, and fires when movement detected hence the second flash again time and speed recorded. So,anyone who says they got flashed twice for just going over the white stop line is telling porkies, if this is the case and there was a fault then it will show up on picture of your exact position either at the stop line or in the middle of the junction.

That's what I was thinking. Ta.

You can bet that's gone out the window in pursuit of revenue.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stephen, I was well into the junction when I saw what I believed to be, TWO 'DOUBLE' flashes in my mirror, could have been ONE delayed double flash, dunno, never had experience of these things, and, the road was wet, which didn't help.
The beamer almost certainly jumped the red light, triggering the camera, I'm concerned that my reg plate will be 'in the frame' and I'll get a NIP also?

Dont worry all lanes are covered by the loops, so even if you were in front or behind,or evenat the side then you will be seen to be either in contravention of the red light or not.

I have always heard of there being at least a 1 second delay between red coming on and the camera activating.

There are dummy units available which may not have this delay? (or a camera)

I assume you can actually see if there is a lens in the camera housing, like with a regular gatso camera... Unless of course we're talking RedSpeed thingies.

Unless you mean for that particular junction, that is not always true. 3 out of 5 sites I can think of have at least one lane not monitored. Also I have not seen the setup you described, all the sites around here have sensors very close to the stop line, just before and just after it. Would be funny if they have been installed wrong though ;)
