My 2.0 ltr diesel had exceptional road holding - which was good, because once you got it up to speed, you didn't want to slacken off any! Otherwise the only other saving grace was it was easy to work on, and Montego bits fitted from the scrapyard!
I once took a learner driver over Wrynose in the snow with a view to teaching driving in poor conditions on steep hairpins.
Poor girl was traumatised by the time we reached the Duddon turn off - but not as much as the passengers in the back.
Passed her test first time though, and proved to be up to the task, just lacking confidence initially.
The trouble with Hardknott is nobody teaches you how to cope, you end up teaching yourself!
