It has not been a good week in Cumbria for accidents, with several serious crashes around the county.
However in the past twenty four hours, there have been two collisions which were entirely avoidable.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cumbria-14001437A driver drove the wrong way along a stretch of dual carriageway within Carlisle, before colliding with several cars - the last one head on.
He was fleeing police who had spotted him driving at speed.
After fleeing his wrecked vehicle, he jumped over a bridge, and is now seriously ill in hospital - as are some of his victims!
One can only hope he saves the country the cost of a trial.
The earlier accident involved a Wigan man, exiting the motorway at Shap, and when he got to the end of the slip road, he collided with two horses and riders.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cumbria-14002018Both horses were killed, and the riders were both injured.
The driver, a 70 year old, has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
One cannot imagine the carnage he could have caused had he made a driving error on the motorway - and wonder at the wisdom of speed cameras on motorway bridges!
Even if he had been speeding, he would not have been STOPPED.
But hey - speed enforcement by camera is cheap, and lots of people support it, so who are we to criticise!
