Southampton uni have basically made a system to monitor what a driver is looking at and when while driving. This could lead to some decent amount of research into the distraction effects of cameras and over emphasising speed limit compliance. It should also give insight into what driver behaviour should be encouraged. It knows when a driver is looking at the speedo or mirrors and knows where other vehicles are in relation to the car being monitored. Simulators are good but they don't reflect proper real life conditions and you will never accomplish 100% realism compared to sending someone down an actual road being monitored.
