The Department of Transport has published a report on the UK road accident figures for 2003, based on information about accidents reported to the police.
While they're massive numbers, both total casualties at 290,607 and serious injuries at 33,707 were down on the previous year, but the number of people killed in road accidents rose by 2% to 3508.
Pedestrian casualties and the number of children killed or injured were also reduced, but there were more injuries and deaths among motor-cyclists, and it's estimated that deaths in accidents involving drink driving also rose.
