Let's hear it for Rachel P and Geoff S of Bolton area!

Rachel's just 18 years old. Her Dad's a stalwart member of the Bolton IAM Group ( pal of my brother and sisters who live down that way.. :) ) . She passed her test at age 17 years, already decided like my own brood to aim to improve .. and she declares to the Bolton press that she still has much to learn and it's a continual learning experience as we learn to cope with new pressures, roads, roadsigns and legislation

Oh.. if only we could all bring up our kids to such intelligent and budding maturity. I do know our enthusiasm for cars, constant improvement and COAST has rubbed off on our own brood.. all chips off the old block where wheels and throaty, husky engines are concerned :D

Rachel reckoned she had alreay clocked up a few bad habits after 12 months of driving before signing up to her 12 week training stint for her IAM (she completed and passed in 9 weeks..as did William - our eldest - who has since upstaged my young pass and got a gold standard RoSPA. Thus laying down the standard for competition from the twins .. )

I enjoyed the course very much. It makes you concentrate, observed, anticipate and plan ahead

:rotfl:

:scratchchin:

Now where on earth have we heard that before :D

Ooooh.. I think Bolton IAM lurks

She continues that she would really hate to think an accident occurred because of something she did on the road out there and she intends to continue learning and improving.

Geoff aged 84 years .. wanted to get his insurance loading down. After you hit age 75 years .. it goes up and increases when you get to 80 years. He's judged by the insurers to be more of a risk than the young tearaways aged 17-25 years... (But then as we get older - we slow down and at those ages.. delayed response can have dire consequences)

Geoff, retired engineer, has been driving for 60 years or so and always been a keen motorist. After his wife passed away - he decided to take his mind off his grief by becoming an IAM member.

I thoroughly enjoyed the course. Things are quite a bit different on the roads than when I first started driving and you have to keep up.

Details of all these local courses are on the local group websites.

Go on! £75 for under 25s and £85 for everyone else. Indulge... and learn and learn to enjoy driving and cope with the twazaks better. Cyclists will love you for it too! 8-)
