Any news on the success or otherwise of this initiative? Earlier this year I was graciously offered the opportunity to take part in a Speed Awareness Course as an alternative to points on my licence - all for a measly £90!
My crime? Travelling from Halifax to Rawtenstall over the A681 at 1.45 a.m. early on a Tuesday. On this journey of approximately 30 miles I did not see a single vehicle on the road - not one!
I then reach a place called Stacksteads and drive past a police van with a couple of bobbies standing by it, having a quick fag. Maybe 50 yards further on, the dreaded lines on the road - too late! Double-flash! Bugger! Drive on maybe 200 yards, and am passed by a marked car going in the opposite direction - I see in the mirror that he stands on his brakes just before reaching the cameras.
Now tell me that this load of bollocks isn't a money-raising exercise. I was clocked doing 36 in a 30, at that time of morning, when the local force seem to have plenty of time to hang around having a ciggy break. Not a single other bloody vehicle or pedestrian seen in 30 miles of driving. I'd have been happier for them to stop me, breathalyse me, the works - if only to demonstrate that they're doing their job.
Anyway, I've now got a clean licence, but how much more of a liability on the roads am I when I'm glancing at my speedo every 10 seconds?
BTW, when I was a biker, a terrier that used to chase my bike was cured of this habit by a swift boot in the head - perhaps someone could try this with North Wales' own litlle yapping annoyance?

Hi there, :welcome:

I think it depends a lot on the actual speed awareness course itself. Be prepared for a depressing time where they'll do everything they can to convince you that you are a murderous child killer

If you can cope with that, then I guess it will be better to take the course as opposed to having 3 point on your license.

By the way, sorry to hear about you getting done. It's this sort of over-zealous policing by SCPs which does nothing for safety and creates general contempt for the law.
