This dropped on my desk this morning... may be of interest to SSers:
The Second International Driver Behaviour and Training Conference 2005
Quote:
Scope of Conference
There has been little research in driver training and existing methods tend to focus on the development of low-level vehicle-handling skills with little reference to the development of higher-order skills such as self-assessment of personal risk factors, hazard perception, driver goals and motivation, etc. The focus for the conference is to consider ways in which driver training could be adapted to take into account the driver behaviours that may contribute to the risk of accident involvement. Road safety researchers and professionals will be encouraged to consider the kinds of methods that are effective in teaching higher-level skills and to define new approaches to driver training methodology based on many years of empirical research on driver behaviour.
The conference will appeal to road safety researchers as well as road safety professionals from the private and public sector offering the opportunity to meet and discuss ideas and innovations with like minded researchers and practitioners with the aim of improving road safety through driver training.
