here

Quote:
Most people drive much too fast, particularly in towns and cities, that’s official. A good general rule is never drive beyond your limits or those of your vehicle. This means in practice never driving so fast that you can’t stop safely or react to emergencies in any given driving conditions.

The good news is that the work of calculating these guidelines has mostly been done for you, they are called speed limits! Speed limits are laid down for every road in the country and have been carefully calculated as being the fastest you can drive on that road without causing a danger to yourself and other members of the public, so don’t ignore them!

Connexions is a government agency, too...

That's good advice, fairly similar to the Safe Speed rule of driving at a speed that allows you to stop within the distance you can reasonably expect to be clear.

But...

:stupidme: ...then they go and destroy any benefit with this codswallop. The message is not "think about what you're doing" but "the limit tells you what's safe and what isn't" (again  ). Well, if they end up with drivers doing legal speeds in dangerously inappropriate circumstances they've only got themselves to blame.

I suspect we already have a great deal of this and a 'fatality gap' to show for it. :(

I'm sure you're right. I should have said "even more drivers".

Well Connexions is a careers/housing/social service for your young people upto 19 I think, and from reading the quote its definate got the condescending feel to it.

Now I know I can safely drive on a motorway at 70mph and won't have an accident, even if it's foggy, even if it's -20° C and there is 2" of black ice on the road surface.

No, I know I will be safe because accidents never happen at speeds under the speed limit.

Isn't it wonderful, all this friendly free advice we are given???

One day they'll start sticking unmarked VIDEO cars on motorways and start pulling numpties who drive at a constant 60MPH in the middle lane.

But what do I know about road safety? I do have a wallet though and lots of credit cards with oodles of credit on them....

My mum used to work for Connexions, though not that branch.

They are a private company, but the work they do is paid for by the government. They basically exist to teach chavs how to get jobs working at McDonalds. (gross oversimplification)

Why do we need another agency to say what the Highwaycode has said for years - at any time never drive beyond the capability of you or your vehice

IG preaches COAST - IG - PLEASE PREACH,

PERHAPS THEY MIGHT LISTEN TO YOU

(STILL SAY WE NEED A FLYING PIG SYBOL( BUT NOT ONE IN POLICE UNIFORM IN THIS CASE))

Yeah, Connexions did bugger all career-wise for anyone at my school as far as I'm aware. They did give us a nice book telling us all about sex and drugs, though. I now know what the street price for cocaine is, for example, and I could tell you a number of ways of ingesting it. Which is exceedingly useful...

And that someone could put this advice into a publication scares me.

Did the book also mention that it is far more profitable (in the long run) to cut the charlie with speed than what it is to cut it with glucose?

Nope, but now I'm intrigued.. Is this because people will still come back for more, whereas they wouldn't with sugar?!

You got it in one Mike.

Cutting it with glucose is no good as people will know the second it hits the upper nostril that it just doesn't feel right.
Cut it with a little bit of billy and not only does it have the right 'twang' as it goes up, but the billy will also keep them awake and chatty, which leads the user to believe that you sell good shit and they will come back for more.

If you want the user to believe that you are giving them grade A coke, then whack a little bit of aspirin in as well which will induce a very, very slight nose bleed.
