A correspondant in today's expres has written in stating that

Paul Smith of Safespeed points out that road deaths are falling at sights where there are cameras but not where there are no cameras.

I think he has seriously misunderstood or misquoted Safespeed. Either that or the Express has doen some serious editing.

That's an odd one.

Can anyone provide the complete letter? If they misquote, they almost always give space to set the record straight. I smell opportunity.

FALLING DEATH RATES SHOW SPEED CAMERAS DO WORK

The debate over speed cameras continues ("Wrangle over lives saved by cameras", June 16)
Paul Smith of the Safe Speed (sic) Campaign says road deaths are falling in areas where speed cameras have been sited, but that's not the case where there are no cameras.
Surely this proves that speed cameras work?
Drivers slow down where cameras are located and lives are saved.
This is the strongest argument I have heard yet for introducing more of them.

Looks like Mr Weeks has cherry picked a quote of yours, ignoring anything about Regression to the Mean that may have followed.
