I've been sent the following by email:

=================================
Drivers Can't Complain

It isn't speed cameras or the police raising revenue for the authorities: it's ignorant, self-centred, speeding motorists. Ignoring a speed limit is a matter of choice; as such, it negates any right the motorist has to complain.

I'd love to bring every one of the 20,000 drivers who felt that the 40mph speed limit in force on the M4 roadworks didn't apply to them into a hospital A&E department to see the devastation that speeding brings to lives.

In the past few years, I've nursed three men who were earning an honest living, working on the roadside, who were severely injured by motorists who felt that the speed limits were there just to irritate them.

Perhaps anti-speed camera campaigner Paul Smith would be happier if the money speeding motorists pay in fines was directed towards helping rebuild the lives of these victims.

Anyone who thinks speed cameras are just about lining the pockets "cash-hungry quangos" has a very simply solution staring them in the face: don't speed.

Jane seems to be saying that if you don't agree with a law - you have no right to complain?

I've driven that section recently at the 40mph limit and had to try hard not to fall a sleep. there were no workman on the stretch at all. and the restriction is far too long. perhaps if they displayed them limit only when people were working it would not be ignored

I'd like to know how many road workers have been injured by motorists exceeding the speed limit where no other factors have been involved.

The woman is misguided!

have a look at the reply I posted in this section on the matter.

I'd really like to see the stats on workers being struck by vehicles and what the circumstances actually were.

As for the statement regarding ignoring irritating limits.....utter rubbish. We're they exceeding the limit? were the drivers actually thinking that?

Another thing that bugs me......whilst I have the highest regard for the lady and her profession, what qualifies a nurse who specialises in the treatment and rehabilitation of patients to comment on accident causation, driver physchology, risk assessment & mitigation and the setting of appropriate speed limits?

it's not scientific but I googled speeding driver kills and could not find a single news article of a speeding driver who killed someone on the first 3 pages.
