Apparently I was shown from a recording last week in London.

Paul,

Was this the interview shown of you talking about drivers avoiding speeding fines by getting their mates to admit to be the driver at the time of the offence?

I was outraged that they were linking your interview to the news story about the man who used the excuse that someone else was driving at the time of the offence.

As reported, his crime was that he allegedly named someone as the driver who did not exist. Therefore he was caught out and I assume found guilty of perjury/perverting the course of justice.

This is a totally seperate issue to your interview, and should never have been used in this report.

The other worrying aspect of this case is that the driver was sent to jail for two months. How can the judge defend that decision in the light of recent guidelines by the Lord Chancellor et al?

They are wringing their hands over prison over-crowding and calling for non-violent criminals (regardless of past convictions) to be given probation and community service orders.

But the politicians are so worried their venue from law abiding motorists will dry up if we challenge/contest the NIPs they order an example to be made!

I welcome anyone elses point of view but please read some of the news articles linked to the thread 'Mr Loohole arrested' and then tell me I am wrong!

Yes. The interview was about a week before the details of the case came out.

I can't say I feel any outrage. I don't think they used the best clip by any means, but that's life. They must have recorded more than 20 minutes to get that 10 second clip.

Lying in order to evade a penalty is always lying to evade a penalty and I'd never dream of recommending it. There are legal ways of killing off speeding tickets. However, 'points sharing' is clearly very commonplace and convictions are as rare as hen's teeth. Well, almost.
