Belgium's Public Works Minister Kris Peeters has confirmed that eighty-three percent of roadside speed cameras and a quarter of intersection cameras in Belgium have been shut down over accuracy concerns. In early 2004, officials discovered the devices were generating inaccurate speed readings and, after inspection, decided to shut them down.

The government claims it has solved the problem and is working as fast as possible to reactivate the 236 ticket machines previously found unreliable.
