So sorry I didn't get the chance to post on this before the fact.

Inside out on BBC south ran another report on the Lti 20-20 this evening. They ran the first one in March of this year with a renowned laser expert demonstrating slip effect

http://www.bbc.co.uk/insideout/south/se ... eras.shtml

Following that program they had a massive response from viewers so decided to follow it up. Basically in the first program they proved the slip effect on a stationary vehicle but Frank Garrett stated that this could not under any circumstances happen with a moving vehicle as the software would prevent it.

Well they got a couple of Lti 20-20s and a lorry fitted with GPS and managed to get the lorry measured at 35 mph with a correctly operated lti and 53 mph with a slipped one. The lorry GPS stated 33mph at the time.

They replicated this 7 out of 21 attempts (if I understood the reporter correctly)

Now the interesting thing is that neither Frank, the police or the Home Office would give them the Ltis so they got them from the USA. Franks response, although he would not take part in the show was that the American ones may do this but the UK ones wouldn't because they are different.

The Article finished by producing a document in which Frank states that the UK devices are exactly the same as those used by NASA. A NASA spokesman confirmed that the device they use was exactly the same as those used to demonstrate the slip effect.

Following the report the presenter cautioned that if anyone was concidering fighting a speeding charge based on this evidence the police had advised that if the fight was lost then the person who takes it to trial would face much stiffer pealties for doing so.

Frank Garrett

What would be the outcome if these particular cases were pushed all the way to court?

Smeggy,

I don't know if you are aware of David Edgar who was fighting a simalar case :yikes: with regard road side camera's. His case will give you a good Idea :furious: of what will happen to people who push their cases to court. The whole camera scenario and CSP's stinks.

Hmmm..... Edgar may well have had a good case but he let himself down a bit. If he had kept the site just about the Gatso case then people might have taken an interest, but the site is now filled with non-specific claims which have buried the original article. The only thing that genuinely intrigues me was why the police officers kicked his door in and physically dragged him off.

Also he is a vexacious litigant, which I believe is quite a feat to achieve.

Gareth

I am indeed aware of Mr Edgar's case.
The basis of his case looked so simple yet so strong; the proof would have been absolute. All the chap had to do was prove the delay between flashes; I fail to understand how he could possibly let that one slip though his fingers. Perhaps he was too trusting of the SCPs by assuming they wouldn't remove the evidence before he could get a calibrated measurement? Perhaps he got it all wrong?

However, I'm certainly not saying that you are wrong Dixie. We all know how far these cameraships are willing to go to justify their continued existence, as well as the government’s reluctance to act against them (especially when considering the money that’s raked in).
