Stourport speed limit enforcement

A SPEED camera motorcycle will enforce the 30mph limit on a Stourport road this week.

The new core enforcement site in Dunley Road, between Areley Lane and the B4194 has been launched by the Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia.
In the last three years, where speed was recorded as a contributory factor in the collision, there has been one fatal collision and two slight injury collisions on the road.
The partnership’s core site programme is aimed at reducing vehicle speeds and improving safety on the roads.

According to the Safer Roads Partnership, collision and speed data supports the need for enforcement and there has also been concern raised from the local community in PACT (Partners and Communities Together) meetings about the impact of excessive vehicle speed on safety and residents’ quality of life.
Speed data collected this month, shows that the majority of vehicles using the road exceed the 30mph limit.
Of the vehicles heading towards Stourport, 84 per cent were exceeding the speed limit, compared to 66 per cent of vehicles travelling towards Great Witley.

Katy Jenkins, communications manager at the Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia, said: “This new site forms part of our core site programme where locations are assessed on speed data and the collision history of the road. In the case of Dunley Road, there is also a significant level of community concern about vehicle speeds and the overall safety of the road.”
She added: "There is a first school in Heightington Place, close to the Dunley Road junction, making it more important for drivers to slow down and keep within the speed limit.”

Conservative Councillor Derek Prodger, Worcestershire County Council cabinet member for transport and safe environment, said: "The message we always stress to people is that speed limits exist for a reason. Anyone that travels in excess of the designated limits is putting themselves and others in danger, as well as breaking the law."
