Camera sneak in shelter
By JOHN COLES
A SPEED camera operator sinks to a new low — by hiding in a BUS SHELTER.
The sneak even used roadside trees as extra cover.
After parking his van out of sight he set up under the shelter in Bristol — even though it was warm and dry.
Many motorists did not spot him until it was too late.
Richard Male, 29, snapped the speed cam on Bristol Downs. He said: “I was so taken aback I parked and took the picture. This is not in the spirit of deterring speeding — more in the interest of increased revenues.”
Last year police chiefs slammed Avon, Somerset and Gloucs Safety Camera Partnership for parking on roundabouts, bus lay-bys, cycle lanes and double yellow lines.
The Partnership yesterday insisted the operator was working within its guidelines but admitted having no good reason for him not to stand in the open.
Tony Vickers of the Association of British Drivers said: “This is the latest way of ensuring revenues are kept high.”
