UK will grind to halt without new roads

"Thousands of miles of new roads will have to be built by the government to cope with the effects of bottlenecks, population growth and ambitious new housebuilding targets, an authoritative study has concluded.

Much of the demand for expansion will be in the South East of England, and there will be a need for 'significant' roadbuilding in the Midlands and East Anglia, says the report for the RAC Foundation, which is due to be published at the beginning of next month."

I'm sure I could have told them the same for a lot less money.

The idea that we need lots of new and expanded roads, as soon as possible, is a no-brainer to me. A pity the government don't take the same view :x

Nice to see the PT lobby in a panic in the rest of the article.

Looks like the begininning of the end for road pricing too, if Glaister is finally saying 'build roads'.

That didn't take long to come true did it?

(I didn't have any 'inside info' yesterday.)

We haven't built any for 10 years, so its probably overdue. However, while I can see that demand will increase in areas with increased development. I can't see there being more than a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio of cars to people.

Even on that basis thats still another 400,000 cars just to cater for migrants.
