Three 15-year-old schoolfriends were killed when their car spun off a country lane in a suspected “road rage” chase.

Danny Archer, Chris Jolley and Richard Warren died after being thrown from a Ford Escort which was torn apart by the force of the crash.

Friends said yesterday that the Escort had been involved in a high-speed chase with a VW Bora. Both cars’ occupants were reported to have had an argument before getting back into their vehicles and driving off in the same direction.

The Escort’s 17-year-old driver received minor injuries. He and two men aged 26 and 42 who were in the Bora were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Last night friends paid tribute to the three youngsters who died as they were returning from a fishing trip at Bottle Hall, near Hedingham, Essex, on Sunday.

All three boys were pupils at Hedingham comprehensive.

I can’t believe this has happened – it is such a shock Janelle Chapman

Floral tributes, a teddy bear and an Ipswich Town shirt – Richard’s favourite football team – were left at the scene of the accident on the A131 near Halstead, Essex.

Janelle Chapman, 14, a pupil at Hedingham, said: “I had been with them a few hours before. We were just hanging out.

“Then they went fishing at Bottle Hall. I can’t believe this has happened – it is such a shock. They were very popular.”

A friend of Richard’s said she had heard they were in a chase with another car.

Of course .. had there only been a speed camera...

Again . we are back to attitudes .. COAST and the threat of a lurking policeman.

I know that when I was 17 years old .. I used to see police on patrol .. and I knew that they could be lurking anywhere on the roads I'd be driving on too. That .. and perhaps the overall general respect we all more or less had for police way back then (and now as far as our generation is perhaps concerned  despite being rebels against speed cams as we actually want decent cops back again ) might have been one reason why most of us actually survived and even controlled our dafter "inclinations" of the past.

My thoughts though are with the families of those 15 year olds ..including the family of that young driver too - and I am sure this 17 year old who was driving that car will be guilt ridden forever.. along with those in the other car - who were really "old enough to know better" to be blunt. .
