Thief steals £20,000 speed camera

A thief who stole a £20,000 speed camera is being hunted by police.

The camera was stolen from a fixed site on London Road in Sunningdale, Berkshire, on Thursday night or the early hours of Friday.

Insp Malcolm Collis said: "The theft of this camera is disgraceful. It shows utter disregard for the safety of other road-users."

Thames Valley Police are appealing for witnesses who saw anyone loitering near the camera to contact them.

Insp Collis said: "The camera was put on this road to slow motorists down because three people a year are being injured on this stretch of road.

"I would urge anyone with any information, or anyone who saw any suspicious people near to or standing on a vehicle near the camera site, to call police or Crimestoppers anonymously."

...and so it begins. Natural 'wastage' of existing cameras, without ring-fenced funding to repair/replace them, will eventually turn the profitable scam business into an unsustainable money-hole.

Shame.

Yes. The speed (or lack of) at which vandalised cameras are replaced will be a very clear indicator of the decline of the scameraships.

I wouldn't want to encourage Captain Gatso but, hey

Well funny:

They'll find no witnesses forthcoming.

The ones in my area are well in public view on roads with high traffic volumes so they could not do it here.

one of the gatsos is located right next the fuel station where every single police car refuels.
