I think it's time the one rule for motorcyclists and one rule for cage drivers is harmonised.

Picture this, say I am 18 years old, have just passed my test and I am in a good job. Daddy is rich so I can afford to splash out a bit on insurance therefore I can go and buy a saxo vts or a mini cooper (or something tastier). I may or may not be able to control it either through lack of skill or maturity.

On the other hand, I am 18 years old as above, and I have just passed my m/c test. Guess what, the biggest bike I can ride is a 250 or a slightly bigger bike with a restrictor that holds it down to 33 bhp. I cannot ride a full power bike until I am 21. If I am over 21, I have to demonstrate that I can ride a higher performance larger bike (direct access) or go on a probation period of 2 years before I get nirvana.

So logically, why cannot the rule applied to motorcyclists be applied to young car drivers. For example limit them to a maximum of 1.3 litres or a specific power output.

I am sure that this would be a good idea, will probably get flamed for it though. I also think that skid pan training should be compulsory for all new drivers - like pass plus but with some real content.

I remember splashing out some serious money (at the time I was 19) on a mornings rally training, and again for a skid pan session. It certainly brings home to you how to gain control of a vehicle. Currently all we do is verbally tell our new drivers how to get out of a skid. What bloody use is that?
