This is a campaign to remove speed cameras. We do not want safety equipment removed.

None so deaf as those who wont listen..

I actually feel quite sorry for people who think a posted speed limit is a safe speed. They bang-on about limits all the time with absolutely no understanding, least of all an admission, that the difference between the ball hitting the skittle depends on, (not a definitive list): -

A slippery wet road verses a dry sticky road
Going uphill verses downhill
Cars parked and pedestrians in the area verses open deserted road
No junctions verses approaching a junction
Alert driver concentrating on the road verses tired driver fiddling with radio

Regardless of the rules and who's doing the right or wrong thing on the roads, I learnt anticipation and spatial awareness when I had a motorbike at 17 years old. (You have to or you get killed).

I'll say it before a troll does: "Bollocks Tony, it's :30: regardless of the conditions. What is it you don't you understand about a speed limit?"

Yeah, and you never speed or adjust your driving to the conditions. It's 30 mph and that's all you need to know.

I'd like to get these trolls and tattoo a mirror image of the word COAST on their foreheads so they are reminded each morning of the principals of good driving as they wash their stupid faces.

On the way into work I travel down a road with a 30 mph limit. I often do about 35mph on one stretch when/where it is open and clear. Further along the same road, however, I approach a school where there are usually children and mums walking nearby. At this point I'm usually down to about 20 mph with my foot hovering over the brake. I often find myself slowing other traffic down at this point in fact.

This is why I have never hit anyone and is just one aspect of my driving which has served me well for 32 years.

Was it Bombus who said he's thinking of taking time out - I know how he feels. Engaging with trolls is quite draining. (My last post on this thread)

You will be branded a threat to society by going over a speed limit where it is safe to do so, and suffer the consequences of your actions in a way criminals do not, more so than someone who is a real threat to our society.

I take it you have wised up then, and agree with everything else in the long post you are trying to respond to with what I suspect you consider is a pithy one-liner.

I support a campaign that wants a return to real road safety policy, without over-reliance on automatons. If your twisted logic turns that into pro-speed safety-hating then it just goes to show how ill-equipped you are to deal with the issues at hand.

I note that he has still failed to answer the question, preferring to dodge it because it is too tricky I suspect.

I guess a direct question arises, Gatsos Forever are you going to answer my question that I posed to you, or are you just going to continue with meaningless posts?

Indeed, it should be seen as a service to the community! :jester:

(But don't tempt me - I have got a shotgun certificate!)

Someone born from where Chavs are alleged to originate from is technically a Chav. Even though the only "sins" of being a Chav may be their accent and their place of birth, which they cannot choose.

Please be a little less hostile to Chavs. Some of them would love a hug :D

Something you want to admit to?

I don't know what your definition of Chav is, but mine is equivalent to the northern term, Scally, meaning someone who hands around (usually in a hoody, sweat pants and trainers) generally making trouble, shoplifting, keying cars and the like. You're only a Chav if you behave like one..

(Mind you, you do like R1's... :D )

wikipedia wrote:
The accepted etymology for "chav" is that it derives from the Romani word "chavi", meaning a child.[5] Related words derived from the same source include "charva" meaning prostitute (used in north-east England in a similar sense). In modern Spanish "chaval" or "chavo" means "lad" (eg: El Chavo, a Mexican television comedy whose principal character is a street orphan).[6]

Many folk etymologies have sprung up around the word. These include backronyms such as "Council Housed And Violent"[7]. It has also been suggested that pupils at Cheltenham Ladies' College and Cheltenham College used the word to describe the younger men of the town ("Cheltenham Average").[8] Similarly, it has been thought to originate Medway Towns where it was used to describe people from the town of Chatham ("Chatham Average").

AskOxford wrote:
The precise origin of chav is a matter of debate, but most people agree on its geography, namely that it probably began in Chatham, Kent, where it was best known until it gained its recent high profile. It seems that the word itself began as a derogatory label for an older underclass, gypsies, many of whom have lived in that area for generations. Language expert Michael Quinion surmises that chav may well come from the Romany word for a child, chavi, recorded from the middle of the nineteenth century. Later in the same century it was apparently used as an insult to an adult man, after which it fell into obscurity before its revival today. - Susie Dent

Having grown up around the Medway Towns area I know that we had loads of pikeys (as they used to be called) who then started calling the younger, heavy gold jewellery wearing of their kind chavi. However, I don't dress or conduct myself in the manner you describe so no offence taken.

Perhaps a new term should be coined for those types of oiks? ASBO Kids? No, they would use the acronym AK and probably add the number of ASBO's on the end. Wouldn't like to meet AK47 :)

I still like Scally, but no-one down this way seems to know what it means...

You're a northern lass then? I remember from my time in Durham that they were not to be messed with (especially the ones who wore short sleeves in the depths of winter). You didn't want to get into an argument with one, even if you were right. On a night out you had to be more wary of them than the native lads.... :yikes:

Somehow I survived unscathed.... ;)

I agree. "Gatsos forever" - either engage in serious and reasoned debate, or just go away. You are becoming a bore.
