Today on Radio Scotland I heard that the Scottish police forces were commencing a crackdown on white van men driving illegally.

Specifically:

* speeding
* failure to wear a seatbelt
* driving with too many people in the van

But by far the WORST offender for the mobile phone law is white van man. Last night I saw two pedestrians nearly get clipped by a white van man sending a text message on a busy pedestrian crossing on Sauchiehall Street in central Glasgow! Why are they only interested in "speeding" and the other two laws, which, while I wouldn't condone their being broken, are only likely to result in the death/injury of the idiots who flout them and no-one else?

It's true!

I drive a selection of white vans at work, and I'm a terrible driver!

Aren't White Van Men statistically the safest on the road? There is some such stat out there......

Why just target WVM anyway?

Because they have stupidly lower speed limits and don't know it?


Because delivery drivers don't have to (?) and they tend to drive vans, some white.

Why stop at White van man - what about green /blue/red / any other colour van man( the colour of the van, i mean). And whilst we're at it how about the activities of Pickup up man - the back filled with wheelbarrows/shovels / etc/etc thrown in and trying to escape over the tailgate at every bump.Indicators - if they're used , are covered in dirt and can't be seen, like brake lights ( if working).And that's the ones that you can see --the others you know are there - problem is that you can't see them for the clouds of black smoke .
