Safespeed was on the radio news this morning. TimeFM 106,6 Berkshire.

It was a one-liner saying that Safespeed advocate a 3-second amber phase on traffic lights to give drivers more time to stop on faster roads. :)

This was followed about a minute later by a message from saferroads.org:

"Just because there's no sign, that doesn't mean it's OK to speed. Always assume it's a 30 limit". WTF? Are they really suggesting that people should drive at 30 on NSL roads? :roll:

The news you heard was the IRN feed which (as I recall) goes to several hundred commercial radio stations.
