MAYOR BACKS LONDON GP PLANS
Last Updated: Monday, 05, July, 2004, 03:05

London mayor Ken Livingstone has thrown his weight behind proposals for a London Grand Prix.

Livingstone gave the idea his backing just a day before F1 cars are due to run down Regent Street.

The event was conceived as a way of promoting this weekend?s British GP at Silverstone. But the Northamptonshire circuit could soon face some competition for its blue riband race if Livingstone has anything to do with it.

Expect to see Michael Schumacher finally overtaken (but by a motorbike courier), drivers consulting cabbies as to whether lap times could be improved by nipping down Saville Row instead of Regent Street, and retirement of all 20 cars by about lap ten due to damage by traffic calming measures.
And of course, Ken'll make another five quid per car in congestion charges for Friday practice. :P

Sorry, I did say it was cheap. :)
