At last... Think! are about to start a decent Think! ad - allegedly from tomorrow.

What has got Wildy :neko: rolling over for a tickle on tum and myself all over excited?

CLUE! PH readers know her views on the dreaded Handy as she calls it - all I get in any call to her phone is something not quite ladylike and definitely wildy cat    if she bothers to answer a call from me :?

Well it seems the Charity "4 Children" and the RAC have conducted a survey amongst our 11-16 year olds = that age group who appear to get run over more than any other age group anywhere in Europe  :?

(Report in "Manchester paper - first edition - Peter Woodman reports).

Quote:

Fears for the safety of teenagers have been raised after a survey found over 30% use their phones whilst crossing the road.

The RAC Foundation and the charity 4 Children conducted a survey of 11-16 years olds and found:

1. Over 90% own a mobile and 5% of these cross a road whilst gabbling and texting. but admit to looking for traffic

2. Almost 10% often cross the road without looking properly and whilst concentrating on their call :?

3. Some 20%  :? cross a road fairly frequently without looking and using a mobile phone :?

4. More than 41% :yikes: have had a near miss because they crossed the road without looking and whilst gabbling on the phone.

5. Almost 10% admit they have been struck :yikes: by a car and that it was their fault because they did not look!

(Conclusion: kids are more honest and should be in charge of government statistic collation and calculation - with all them As - they just gotta be good at this and better able than the lot we got doing this job at moment!! eldest passed with flying furballs (not hard these days   ) and looks like he's scoffed all the cream here. I am now looking at my potential bank account balance with dismay : :juggle: :hissyfit: :banghead: - he's 7 years ahead via St Andrews... :hissyfit: why don't he want an 'ology?

Back to topic.... RAC's Edmund King said

Quote:
that the RAC is delighted with the "Think!" campaign which is to target this inattention amongst teens . We have been concerned for some time that increased use of mobile phones and personal stereos was adding to road safety problems Listening to "Busted" :? :o :surprise: is not exactly conducive to road safety!"

They've been reading this site and must have read some of the stinging e-mail sent by the family teachers

He then spoiled this by saying

Quote:

Drivers should be aware that children are on their phones  :?

but these are small gadgets? How are we supposed to see a mobile phone attached to an ear under those hoody things they wear? And we are supposed to watching the road and the speedo as well here?  :?

and

Quote:

Slow down if they see children as children do the unexpected - and run across the road to greet their pals without thinking. :?

COAST

The piece ends with Anne Longfield of 4 Children expressing her delight at the campaign highlighting these dangers and attempting to alert children in particular to these dangers as watching out for traffic is crucial to road safety.

About time - this is long overdue as a safety campaign and hope it gets message across about Green Cross Code and need for all road users to apply COAST ideas when out and about.
