A Dad who died after being knocked off his motorbike was sent a bill by Manchester City Council. It seems the council is demanding damges to a boolard and road barrier at the site of the incident!

Mr Leeming died last July after a novice driver ploughed into him at a road junction. It seems that the widow received a letter demanding £300 in compensation for the bollard.

Even after her friend complained to the council and a written apology was issued - the poor woman recieved a further two demands seeking payment for the repairs.

Why are they not dealing with insurance companies? Was youngster not insured - no mention in piece?

The council apologised for the blunders which should not even occur - especially after the young driver admitted careless driving .

It seems to be standard procedure for councils to try and claim off anyone in the vicinity of an accident.

A few years ago my brother was passed by a joyrider being chased by marked police cars. As the car passed him it mounted the embankment, flipped and took out a chunk of the central crash barrier. He stopped at the scene and gave his details etc to the officers. Thinking he was doing his good citizen bit in case of any repurcussions against the BiB involved.

Next thing he hears about it is a claim for damages from the council!!!!

Luckily he told them where to shove it. I can imagine many other people would have just passed it on to their insurers.
