the speedo checking on aproach to a camera site is one worrying aspect.
but , what about after you have past a camera. how many people are then looking in their mirrors just to make sure there isnt a flash.
i now find i am always checking my mirror/looking over shoulder just
to make sure there isnt a flash. i do this even though i am under the limit
because i do not trust "robots".
anyone else do this?

Yep I have found myself doing it whenever I go past them... Even when I KONW I am definitely under the speed limit. Just force of habit I guess... Seeing as I'm only allowed 6 points before losing my licence I'm somewhat paranoid about such things. God knows how much worse I'll be if (or maybe that should say 'when', the way things are going...) I get 3 points.

That's a very good point made regarding mirror checks for camera flashes. Of course we should all check our mirrors regularly for safety reasons and to remain aware at all times. However, concentrating on a camera we have already passed for a period of a few seconds surely cannot be conducive to road safety. I must confess that I have also picked up this bad habit - something I intend to put right now. I do not trust the "robots" either.

I found I had developed a very dangerous habit - watching the speed drop to the speed limit as I approach the camera - God knows how much time I wasn't watching the road. I've manage to break the habit now, but I'll bet I am not the only one who's got into this habit

It Is Very Concerning. Looking out for a FLASH, Which probably isn't going to come. Then we all get Paranoid.. I hate to admit it, but I have done it on a couple of occassions!

Hi all,

I was approaching a gatso, which was on the other side of the road so the flash was facing me, someone activated the scamera and it flashed twice very brightly of an interval about 1 second, after the flash I had severe tracers till the end of my journey and had a pain in my eye/head for the rest of the night, it was like a bolt of lightening 20 feet in front of me, now if that isn't downright dangerous distraction what is?

Isn't it strange how the distractions of mobile phones, tiredness, inattention, cracked windscreens and all the rest are highlighted yet no mention of speedo checking, to be honest I myself didn't think speedo checking would have warranted a dangerous amount of distraction until I nearly stoved a car side on while coming back up from the speedo check in a camera area.

See the letter (camera nearly causes accident) in this bit of the forum.

Andrew
