Again, how many simply accept 'guilt' and 'pay up'
My girlfriend and I are trying our best not to donate any cash to the parking enforcement section of a certain London council, after having been ticketed for being parked on a single yellow line at 7:30pm in a CPZ where the restricted hours ended at 8pm. Fair cop you might think, just pay up and stop trying to blag free parking out of the council...
...but if you haven't passed any signs to say you're entering a CPZ with these particular times of operation, how can you possibly be expected to know what the times are? Whilst there are some signs up marking the boundary of this zone, there are none visible to a driver following our route into the zone.
Oh, OK then, that's not
entirely true. There is one that you could see quite clearly.
If you turned your head 90 degrees to the left.
Whilst driving straight ahead across a busy junction, trying to also keep a look out for other vehicles and the large number of pedestrians which hang around this particular junction just waiting for any chance to dash across the road regardless of whether or not the lights are in their favour.
Ah, but did I forget to mention that the times marked on this particular sign aren't even correct?
If that's what the council considers a sufficiently clear level of signage to allow enforcement of the parking restrictions, then I'd hate to see an example of what they'd consider unclear signage. We honestly believe the council is just trying it on by ticketing vehicles parked on these single yellows, hoping that most drivers will assume they must have just missed the signs and quietly pay up without a fuss, and we're having none of it.
