Brilliant story

[cynical]
I guess that all you need is some form of call recording equipment.

Now who could provide such a facility?

After an interweb search, i spotted h t t p : / / w w w . r e t e l l r e c o r d e r s . c o . u k / (spaces to help prevent SEO searches) who seem to have a Chairman called, er, Richard Herman!!!!
[/cynical]

This is definitely good news, but maybe with the wrong motives ;)

When I had a landline ,I usually found the words "registered with TPS" AND "DPA ( TELEPHONY ACT) " ,coupled with "please delete my number from your database" got the desired effect.

yes I find the mention of TPS usually gets them off the line quickly. Another method is to pretend you are interested, then go to answer a ficticious knock on the door and leave them hanging on the line until they get bored with the silence.

As for cold callers at the door- I've got the answer- 12.5Kg of furry fury at anyone who knocks on his door. He sonds really nasty, and the cold callers are out the gate fast. Little do they know,he'd spend a lot of time jumping on their knee. ( Must get a mud bowl to step him in first).

Had another one only today! These people really are the spawn of Satan himself! (well, not the poor sods who actually make the calls, you understand). Yes, I mentioned TPS and he got off quick, muttering something about the occasional one slipping through the net. I told him I'd noticed that too...

There's also the fine, for not consulting TPS- though whether otr not that's operator or firm. ( £5k), and possible disconnection of line. Yea- can you see BT cutting off a nice little source of income. :D

I did this with an energy supplier who, despite being politely and firmly requested to stop calling me persisted in ringing my mobile.
Once they called me when I was in Spain, thereby costing me money to take their sales call.

I eventually wrote to the chief exec of the company advising him that my terms and conditions had changed and that any permission, express or implied, for them to call me was hereby withdrawn and that from here on in any calls would invoke a charge of £150 for my time. I also said that acceptance of the terms would be signified by them making a call to my mobile and no further correspondence would be necessary. I also said that call records logged on a mobile phone would be the only proof needed of a call.

Guess what? They stopped calling!

Like it. Got a similar letter for folks who threaten call at door. eg ,had debt collctor letters for some person unknown at my address. Phone calls -ignored, letters ignored. Then they threatened to send a caller. Sent letter ,recorded- gues what -it all stopped .
