56 years after it was decided it was needed, the Bedford Bypass is nearing completion. The last single carriageway length of it.We have the most photogenic mayor though, always being photographed doing nothing

It often seems that dislike of the elderly is the last acceptable prejudice :x

IMO the problem with elderly drivers is that they don't realise when their competence has reduced to the point where they should not be on the road. I pulled up in a driveway recently where the elderly female neighbour was laboriously making her way from the car to the door of the house looking very ill and unsteady. There is no way she could have coped with an unexpected event while at the wheel.

It's not prejudice to state that, for many, sight, hearing. reaction time and physical ability decline with increasing age. These factors must tend to reduce the competence of elderly drivers over younger but experienced ones.

I see that the survey also identified cyclists as almost as irritating... :)

Thanks, Peter, but I feel that's coming from someone of a similar age. Nice though.
Young bull is chomping grass in paddock with old bull. Young lad looks at tasty heifer ,and says to old bul" nice bit of beef in there, lets jump the wall ,tear down there be nice to one or two"."Hang on " says old lad " gate's open, lets walk through and give all thos ladies a tim to remember. "
(Something to give the likes of Tone a laf).

However, I'm getting on a bit, but the bits( no comment on above bits-draw yer own conclusions) still work. But number of times I hold back just in case ( and computer blokes will recognise the JIC suffix), to find I can AVOID an accident.
OLD saying that I remember my Uncle quoting (and someone back me up as from 60's ish HC= if in doubt hold back"), or was it from his tank driving days (North Africa when in UK tank, you didn't want to meet a Tiger ).

Possibly the JIC factor is being taken out of driving .But don't worry - the all emcompassing SCP organisation will stop accidents. Northern Ireland had a society where religion was a breeding ground for problems. UK roads today - both bigoted
societies have merged into SCP,with one common religion "anti speed".

The biggest problem now is not the elderly or the cyclists but impatient drivers.Driver attitudes need to change.
