She's lovely! My tortie is the same. She's glued to the bed usually.

Tray is best in a quiet corner. Cats can avoid using them if they're too out in the open.

Got the tray in a nice corner of my lean-to. If she doesn't use it soon I will! :P

She's itching to go outside but I've been told to keep her in for two weeks. Worried about my next door neighbours Vima Rama, (however its spelt). But hopefully she'll avoid that garden.

Er, we're in danger of a complete topic drift Teabelly

A cat run might be a good idea in the interim. This way she can go outside, see more of where she is but without the risk of escape. Bit of wood and some cheap plastic fencing would do the job. Did that here quite easily as there was some decking right outside the back door so that was more easily fenced off. Cut a hole in it so they could go underneath to the dirt for their doings and it was ideal.

Might be worth plonking her in the tray at some point if she hasn't done anything by this evening.

While you're off there is little point thinking about work. It'll only make you worse!

I'll see what I've got by way of a walk. A friend from work said to smear butter on her paws when I first let her out :? You heard of this? Something about helping to find her way back.

I'm trying not to think of work but its hard, knowing what I will face when I go back...

I really want to go into property development, get out of the NHS altogether. :scratchchin:

The butter on the paws thing is when you first get them so they're so busy washing off the butter they forget to be nervous about being somewhere new!

I wouldn't put it on for her to go outside as you'll just end up with muddy buttery footprints everywhere... they usually ok with finding their way back when there's food out for them.

Property development is hard to do unless you have a big pile of cash at the moment. If you could do it without, I'd be doing it as well :) If you're prepared to move a lot and live on a building site then that's the other way as residential mortgages are easier to get hold of.

Thanks Peter, I wasn't sure if a Mrs Slocum pussy remark was going to be next :D

I can't understand what she wants, sometimes meows after going out the room like she needs something. So I go to see, thinking It's for a pee or poop or food or lights on please - and It's nothing.

But she's back sitting next to me now all comfy and chillin, probably knackered after all that sleeping.

She doesn't do much, I think I should have got a tarantula. I mean I didn't expect to come home to her doing the Times Crossword but I don't know how to keep her entertained when she goes off and meows.

I favour putting my house up for sale and living in a hovel to use the equity at an auction. Short term pain for long term gain. But probably not while my bp is this high...

PS. I've just noticed something about her :? She snores! Me and others have said her purr is loud but a purr is usually out of sync, often quicker, with breathing. But she purrs/snores in time with her breathing; I can see it from her chest. I've got the only cat I've come across that snores. :P

Mine go into other areas and mewdle for no reason. I ignore it now. It can just be a general complaint because a door isn't open or you've moved something without their permission.

My two girls both snore like warthogs. One sounds like a jumpjet taking off and is more squeaky and the other does this low rumble.

Cats really don't do anything at all. A couple of cat toys are probably a good idea. Also a scratching post. They also do less as they get older. It's hard to imagine how most of then could do even less but somehow they manage it!

I got a rolly type of toy but she's just not interested; I end up kicking it around the floor  Thinking about what she does like doing, I bought a 'Willows Scratch Box' today. It came with Catnip, whatever that is. Unwrapped it and sprinkled the catnip on with anticipation but she just looked at me like I'm a nut.

I scratched and scratched to show her but guess what she did? Started scratching my carpet  So I picked her up and dragged her paws across it several times to demonstrate. But she kept her claws retracted and looked at me like I'm a nut again

I'm the only thing scratching it! The phrase 'buy a dog and bark myself' springs to mind... :D

I think she's trying to make a monkey out of me, and succeeding :P I know what she really wants but It's too soon to let her out. She keeps gawping at the activities in the garden; her eyes nearly popped out when she saw another cat walking the fence...

Cats know what scratching posts are for. They just pretend not to!

Some cats aren't bothered with catnip either. Some of mine are and the others aren't.

Scrunched up tin foil is a common cat favourite. Half hidden cat toys seem to be more interesting. If they disappear under a sheet of newspaper or down a sofa cushion they seem to be more interested in furtling them out for some reason. Brown paper bags are also endless fun. Anything shop bought is often ignored!

The toy mice with the squeakers in the tail are quite good. Even mine will rough one up now and then. My parents cat used to love running up and down the stairs after those balls with bells in. She'd sit next to me and I'd send it off all the way along the landing too and she'd belt along after it and chase it around. If I do it know she looks at me then strolls after it, sniffs it, then ignores it!

Did I mention she's 10 years old.. I think they lose interest in fun stuff at that age; like I've lost interest in sex at my age. :whome:

She keeps sticking her bum in my face too. Always reminds me of that Ken Dodd joke about the man who saw a cat at night and invented Cats Eyes. If the cat was facing the other way he'd have invented the pencil sharpener :D

I feel I need a second cat so it's company for the other and speaks the same language, as it were, but then I'd have two to worry about. I've always thought you learn a lot about life from watching animals, seriously..

Do they worry? No, I don't think so. They live in the moment, so if there's danger they deal with it. After the event they get on with living. So how stupid are we that we allow a nobhead at work give us grief which stays with us way beyond the importance of what it really is. :stupidme:

Do we appreciate our food or, more often than not, just eat to get fed? That's pretty much how it is for me in the working week, but maybe that's just me. Could be losing my own argument here..

Can you imagine an animal feeling sick to the point of being dissfunctional like a man or woman in love does when it's not reciprocated? Makes you wonder how mankind ever survived, especially when you see a baby human so vulnerable and screaming its head off. Why didn't that give our position away and get us all eaten by predators? :P

Wondered if it was for the bike :D
One thing Tone. Leave out a clean litter tray outside when she starts going out. Info from my sister is that they will use it in preference to neighbours gardens. Nothing changes pets into a pest faster than dug up gardens, and bundles of poo in the flower beds .

I have a big poo prob in my neighbourhood, not me. :)

You're so right Botach! I get cats in my garden which bug me because they don't stop to say hi; they use my territory as a toilet :x

But mine, just like a recalcitrant child, is a flower. Giving her fuss right now...

:D

On the age thing. Don't know if cats are different from dogs, but I've got a rescue terrier that's now 11- and is as active as a pup.
"VIA RAMA" - take it you mean "Weimaraner" - think cat will know to stay well clear.

I did a fonettic thing cuz It's not my speciality

Good on ya for a rescue animal Botach :)

Becks, my cat, is about as animated as one of those fake things in a basket with battery powered lungs. Nice to stroke though and I think she has had a hard life.

I got her from my friend who was going over to an empty house where her owner went into a nursing home two months ago. My heart went into care mode so... I got a cat.

After a recent health prob I had, ,she helps me de-stress. (Well, hopefully once she settles).

I think really with an elderly cat a bit of stroking and purring is about all you can reasonably expect :)

But hopefully after a while she might show a bit of interest in you which you might even interpret as affection ;)

Pah! Since when did showing your a-hole more than your face constitute a sign of affection?

PLEASE - DON'T ANSWER THAT ANYONE!!!

(Reluctantly presses submit)... :)

:hehe:

My aunt (who already had two cats) once started feeding a stray black cat that turned up at their door - and it eventually "lived" with the other cats, coming and going whenever they pleased via the cat flap.

Then one day, a near neighbour related a tale about how she had been looking after a stray cat - only to find it had been visiting another neighbour, who thought SHE was it's carer.
Yes, it was the SAME black cat - with three apparent "owners", that was spending time with each, getting fed royally!!

CATS?? AFFECTION?? :neko:

Cats have servants dogs have owners, an' all that Ernest. :D

I couldn't have a dog cuz I'd have to leave it on its own all day when I'm at work, when I go back to work that is. That's what my next door neighbour does and it barks and howls like some scene from the hound of the Baskervilles.

It's annoying for me, :x , and cruel on the dog IMO. Also, I know It's a negative thought, but when they die a part of me dies too :( Not that It's any easier with a cat but I need more upset in my life like I need a bag on my hip...
