CBBC hits the road with brand new Driving Academy

Road safety is under the spotlight in CBBC's brand new series, Driving Academy, which revs its way on to the channel this Autumn.

Presented by Joe Swash, the programme follows four CBBC viewers and their careless parents as they carry out an intensive course of masterclasses aimed at making them safer road users – and have some serious fun along the way.

Under the watchful eye of Approved Driving Instructors, the teams will take part in a range of exciting driving challenges aimed at preparing them for the Ultimate Test at the end of the series.

Both the children and their parents will use dual-controlled cars, guided by the show's road safety experts – Sandra Dodson (Deputy Chief Examiner from the Driving Standards Agency) and Vicky Lovell (Approved Driving Instructor, Grade 6).

They will also be aided and abetted by a team of Crash Test Dummies, including Mr Crash who spends each and every day getting distracted at the wheel and showing how it definitely shouldn't be done.

The 10 x 30-minute episodes have been made by indie Lucky Day and executive produced by Melissa Hardinge for CBBC and Damon Pattison from Lucky Day.

Melissa Hardinge said: "Driving Academy aims to communicate important information around keeping yourself safe on the roads in an entertaining way, in order to engage children and encourage them to take the messages on board.
"CBBC takes its public service broadcasting role extremely seriously and with approximately seven children aged 15 and under being killed or seriously injured on UK roads every day, we are perfectly placed to help educate our audience on how to keep themselves safe."

Has anyone seen or taken part in this series? Sounds most interesting.
